A dog ear infection home remedy can be made easily with therapeutic grade essential oils. They are the perfect choice for combating dog ear infections, yeast infections or dog mites.
Why should We use Essential Oils for Dog Ear Infection Home Remedies?
Therapeutic grade essential oils do not contain any synthetic materials or harmful chemicals. They have antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and skin regenerating properties. Oils also help with dog anxiety and fear; therefore, using oils for shampooing, cleaning ears and teeth will only help them relax through the process!
And all the other benefits of using Essential Oils! This is why they are perfect as a dog ear infection home remedy.
How do we Know our Dog Has a Dog Ear Infection?
If your dogs are continually itching their ears, or there is inflammation or discharge from the ear, there is a chance that they may have an infection or dog mites. However, the first thing I would do is make sure you have good, clean dog ears.
Dog mites feed on the dog ear wax and can actually create an ear infection! So start by cleaning out the ears. See the dog ear cleaning section for the essential oils that you can use as dog ear cleaners. (Many of them will help combat these conditions as well).
If you see dark black or brown debris that may look like coffee grounds; or white dots in the debris then it looks like your dog has ear mites. And that is what is probably causing the infection.
Can Essential Oils be used for Home Remedies Dog Ear Mites?
Yes, essential oils can be used for ear mites. Here are the essential oils that can combat ear mites:
My first choice would be Melrose Essential Oil blend followed by Purification. Both blends have very powerful antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic properties. And both repel insects including fleas and ticks!
Additionally, Melrose blend already contains two different Melaleuca species, rosemary and clove so you don't have to go blending several single oils together and worrying about the recipe amounts.
Melrose is excellent for dog ear ache as well. If you do not have Melrose, use 1 drop each of Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree), Lavender and Roman Chamomile. If my dog is in pain, I place PanAway oil on her paw or use helichrysum around the area of pain. Just placing a drop of helichrysum oil on the outer ear will help with pain and inflammation.
What Essential Oils do I use for a Dog Ear Infection Home Remedy?
Use the same oils listed in the ear mite section for ear infection. However, my first choice here would be Purification. But again, you may want to rotate the oils or use them together.
Also, anytime an animal or human is battling an infection, using an oil to boost the immune system will definitely help. ImmuPower is my first choice. Place a drop on the paw or the outside of the ear.
Don't forget to dilute your oils according to the recommendations in the home remedies for dogs section and the individual oil page. Just click on the oil to find out what the recommendations are regarding dilution.
I use V-6 Mixing Blend to dilute my oils if required; but you can use a single pure grade vegetable oil.
My Dogs don't like their Ears Touched and they get Anxiety, What do I do?
Essential oils can help with that also! But remember to use oil for anxiety and concentration a few minutes before you start anything they have trouble with (or anything new).
Look through the anxiety, horse emotions and horse relaxing sections for tips; Dogs use the same oils for stress and anxiety as people and horses. Peace & Calming and/or Trauma Life would be my first choices. For focus, use Clarity for the boys; and Brain Power for the girls. Or both!
Nan's Final Word about Dog Ear Infection Home Remedy
Remember, that if an infection gets worst or does not clear up, then please get your dog checked out by your Vet so you know exactly what you are dealing with! I always like to use my essential oil home remedies first; but I also know when it is time to seek advice from my Vets.
