Essential Oils for Pain - Help with minor and occasional aches and pain due to exercise, everyday life activities and the normal aging process.

Oils will NOT help with chronic pain due to autoimmune (lupus, fibromyalgia, etc) or degenerative conditions such as arthritis, etc., so please seek the advice of a medical professional in these matters for yourself and your animal.

How do Essential Oils work to soothe minor Ache and Pain?

First oils are easy to use and easily absorb into the skin. Gently placing a drop or two on topically and massaging in the skin or using in conjunction with massage is my recommendation.

As a matter of fact, in combination with massage oils can support circulation by flushing lactic acid from the muscles resulting in improved body function; flush out joints; increase strength and flexibility which will make you less prone to injury.

Second there are oils that will help aid the body's natural response to irritation and injury. These are:

  • Copaiba Essential Oil - contains the highest amounts of beta caryophyllene (55 percent) of any known essential oil.

Third oils can be used in combination with nutritional supplements to support  a healthy musculoskeletal system; and maintain healthy joints and bones:

  • Omega Gize Essential Oil Supplement with Omega -3 Fish oils. 

Did you know there are oils that Traditionally been used for Minor Pain?

Yes and here are the oils:

Wintergreen contains the same active ingredient (methyl salicylate) as birch and is beneficial in massage for soothing head tension and muscles after exercising.

Yes, birch was traditionally used by the Native Americans to combat all of life's little discomforts since before we were keeping any records!

Wintergreen is also emotionally warming and soothing. It opens the heart chakra so we are more accepting of ourselves which is also so important when we are going through any kind of discomfort.

What is the Definition of Pain?

This is from the Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary:

"Pain is a state of physical, emotional, or mental lack of well-being. Or physical, emotional, or mental uneasiness that ranges from mild discomfort or dull distress to acute, often unbearable agony may be generalized or localized."

OR

"It is the consequence of being injured or hurt physically. Or mentally of some derangement of or lack of equilibrium in the physical or mental functions (as through disease), and that usually produces a reaction of wanting to avoid, escape, or destroy the causative factor and its effects."

So by this definition, to reduce discomfort, we must look at all the parts of the equation: physical, emotional, and mental. This is where oils really CAN help. Oils help to bring the body back into balance or equilibrium; ease stress and release buried emotional trauma resulting from accidents, assault, or abuse.

Personally, my top choices are PanAway and Ortho Sport or Ortho Ease. I like to put Ortho Sport on in the morning after a shower and after exercise which helps me with my stiffness.

Massage several drops diluted 50:50 on location as needed; or use in conjunction with massage. Massage oils do not require dilution.

What Oils do I use for Muscle Discomfort?

Keep in mind, that everyone's body chemistry is different. So what may work best for one person, may not work best for another. My suggestion is, as always, select one or two oils (or a blend) to use and find out what oils are right for you. Write down your experiences so you can remember and recognize any changes.

A Personal Note

Well, I can't say that I have been without joint, bone and muscle discomfort, but I have learned to minimize it very effectively.

After all, I have competed in sports my whole life, and still do. Preventing everyday overuse and injury; and supporting the musculoskeletal system and joint function at this point are the key for me. As well as using essential oils on a daily basis.

I use Ortho Sport and PanAway everyday on my body before I ride, especially my knees. If I take a shower later in the day, I will use them then as well. I also take a bone and joint supplement that contains balsam fir, wintergreen and clove essential oils; and MSM that I find helpful (BLM).

I had a very bad finger and hand injury in January 2009. The tendons, ligaments and everything else attached to my ring finger was black and blue down to my wrist. It was extremely painful and ugly to see.

I was thankful to have the oils in addition to the medical advice in helping me recover and heal emotionally and physically. The oils particularly helped me in coming back from the emotional trauma of the injury; and Trauma Life was key oil in that.

You see,

Essential Oils have became my best friends for life. I was so thankful that I had the knowledge of the essential oils to help me through all the aches, pains and discomfort associated with aging, exercise and everyday life activities!
